Fixing CD drive not recognized issue
Read on to know how to fix the CD drive is not recognized by the operating system.
You may sometimes encounter certain issues with the CD driver used in the system. One among these issues includes the CD drive not recognized by the operating system. There may be a number of reasons behind it. The most possible reason behind it includes the driver not been installed properly or it has become corrupted. It is a rare case that the laptop is unable to recognize the drive. There are certain laptops, which provide the option for safely removing the hardware for CD drive as you do for a USB drive. If you are attempting to remove the CD without getting an option to safely remove it then you may encounter certain issues with it.
Here are some tips to fix CD drive not recognized by the operating system issue:
- Press the small notch
- Enable the drive
- Reinstall the driver
Press the small notch
If you have removed the drive by safely removing the hardware option, then you can follow these simple steps. First of all, identify the small notch placed below the CD ROM. You need to press the notch with your finger tip and wait for the notch to come out. As it comes out, press it back and you may get the CD drive connected back to the system. Then, you need to open the My Computer Windows and you can get the CD drive symbol displayed in it.
Enable the drive
You need to ensure that the CD driver is installed properly and has no corruptions. For this, you need to open up the My Computer window and select the Properties option from it. You need to then click the hardware tab to get the Device Manager. You may then get the CD drive displayed with + sign near it. If you get the drive appearing on clicking the + sign and if there is a red cross next to it, it means the drive is recognized by the operating system and the drive is not enabled. You need to then select the enable option to resolve the issue.
If you get the CD drive visible in the My Computer window and still get the error message then you need to get the Device Manager of the system and click the + sign just near to the CD-ROM. You need to then select the CD drive’s name and then select the uninstall option. You need to then click the Action button and select the Scan for Hardware changes option. You will then see the operating system automatically, search out the missing drive and you need to reinstall the drive to solve the issues.
